Daily Bible study
A year of Scripture you can actually understand
A daily Bible study should do more than hand you a verse and a warm sentence. It should tell you what the passage is, what is happening in it, and what it means for the day in front of you.
Let It Shape Your Life is built around 365 dated studies. You can begin on any day of the year. Missing a day costs you nothing: pick up where you are, or go back to the one you missed. There is no schedule to fall behind on, because the book is meant to be something you look forward to rather than another assignment.
Each study is short enough for a busy morning and substantial enough to stay with you. Scripture is quoted from the World English Bible, and every passage comes with the background you need: who is speaking, to whom, and why it mattered when it was written.
That context is the difference between a devotional and a study. A devotional gives you encouragement. A study gives you understanding, and understanding is what lets Scripture keep working on you long after you close the book.
How it works
See how a daily study works
Every study follows the same shape, so the book becomes familiar quickly. You move from reading Scripture, to understanding it, to thinking about it, to doing something with it.
Temptation Knows the Shortcut
Topic: Temptation
Scripture · World English Bible
1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 When he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was hungry afterward. 3 The tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.” 4 But he answered, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of God's mouth.’” - Matthew 4:1-4 WEB
Context
Matthew places this temptation immediately after Jesus' baptism. In the wilderness, the tempter presses Jesus to use His identity and power on the tempter's terms. Jesus answers from Scripture and refuses to let legitimate hunger become an excuse for disobedience.
Let It Shape Your Life
Temptation rarely advertises itself as, “Here is a terrible idea that will damage your life.” It usually offers a shortcut. Meet the need now. Take the easier route. Prove yourself. Nobody has to know. Jesus was genuinely hungry, but hunger did not get to decide what was right. He answered the pressure with truth already rooted in Him. That matters because our weakest moments are poor times to invent our values. Decisions made beforehand can protect us when pressure arrives. What shortcut looks attractive to you right now? The question is not whether the desire underneath it is real. The question is whether the path honors God. A legitimate need never requires us to make disobedience our solution.
Think About It
Where are you being tempted to take a shortcut that solves an immediate problem but moves you away from what you know is right?
